If you have a diagnosis of breast cancer this course has been designed for you. This online course teaches you how to identify your risk of lymphoedema.
1 in 5 persons recovering from breast cancer develop breast cancer related lymphoedema as a side effect of cancer treatment.(1)
"Survivors of breast cancer suffer from a perpetual risk of breast cancer related lymphoedema occurrence, with an average time of 14.4 months after treatment and an estimated risk of 14–40% after treatment completion."(2)
Ideally, you are here now because your medical team has told you about this course before cancer treatment has started as research has shown us that screening should commence before any breast cancer surgery. However, if this isn't the case, you can take this course at any stage during treatment and recovery. Many persons with breast cancer do not experience lymphoedema until several years after cancer treatment has concluded, in fact it is more common for lymphoedema to occur 1-3 years after breast cancer treatment (1,2).
Whilst this course is full of important information it is easy to understand. We also recommend this course to health professionals such as breast care nurses, doctors and cancer rehabilitation therapists as the evidence-based research is presented in a simple form.
Did you know that major professional lymphoedema advocacy organisations recommend that all breast cancer patients are given access to an education program informing them about the risk of lymphoedema?
